The Standard Response Protocol

The Standard Response Protocol Comes to the U

Beginning in January 2026, the University of Utah began implementing the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) as its unified, campus-wide approach to emergency communication and action. Developed by The "I Love You Guys" Foundation and following practices used in Utah K–12 schools and local law enforcement training, the university’s implementation ensures that students, faculty, staff, and visitors share a common, easy-to-understand vocabulary during any incident. The SRP’s simple, action-based directives support clear and consistent responses to situations ranging from weather events and medical issues to fires, accidents, and security threats.

The Protocols

As appropriate, Campus Alert messages will contain SRP language and icons to ensure clear, standardized communication and to facilitate appropriate protective actions during emergency situations. For questions or comments, please contact Campus Emergency Management at 801-581-7200.
